1.  The best way to reducing carbon footprint is to eat what is produced in your own backyard or in the local farm.  The food is fresh, has not been kept preserved using artificial chemicals and moreover, it has not been brought to your neighborhood over long distances, so not too much fuel has been consumed.  This is an excellent way of reducing your carbon footprint.

2. Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to avoid plastic bags.  They are not bio degradable.  There are many trendy cloth and jute bags that one can take to the grocery store.  Did you know that plastic bags not only consume a lot of energy to manufacture and they end up in your landfills and do not biodegrade easily.  They take over 350 years to get broken down naturally.

3. Compost. Not only does it give your herbs a healthy fertilizer to grow in, putting your food refuse in the garbage adds methane to the atmosphere.  Composters are easily available and do not cost too much. Keep a simple one in your yard and once you start compost, within four months you will have high quality compost for your herb patch or your flowers.

4. Conserve energy.  Switch off and unplug your electrical appliances when not in use.  Do your laundry with cold water.  Machines that use hot water use a lot of energy and this is unnecessary.  There are detergents that work just as well with cold water and save you a huge electricity bill.

5. Avoid using the bath tub, take a shower instead.  You can save a lot of water this way.  Moreover, you can use low flow showers and shorter ones to save more water.  This will save water even further.

6. Get solar panels installed.  This will help reduce your power bill substantially.  Moreover, you can get them on a heavy subsidy since the government encourages the use of solar panels.  If you search online you can get inexpensive options too.

7. Plant trees.  This reduces the carbon emissions in the planet.  Trees take in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen.  This helps the environment.

8. Buy fresh farm produce and even source your meat and poultry from local farms.  This would mean that your food did not burn too much fuel to reach your table.  It helps the environment.
